healthcare in the nanaimo region

Nanaimo is the central Island’s regional health service centre with an ever-expanding hospital and private healthcare facilities and services. The Healthcare and Social Services sector is the largest employment sector in Nanaimo providing 7,520 jobs for area residents.    The Nanaimo Regional General Hospital serves a catchment area of approximately 300,000 people. 

Between 2011 and 2016, the number of jobs in health care and Social Assistance in Nanaimo increased by 14.37%

There healthcare sector accounts for 10.13% of licensed businesses operating in the City of Nanaimo.  There were 605 licenses issued to Healthcare and social services related firms as of June 26, 2018.
